Steal the Look: Bella Swan Outfits Recreated for Fall/Winter

Sharing is caring!

Whether you’re looking to change your personal style or are looking for a costume for a party, Bella Swan’s style is simple to recreate. It’s cozy and warm and ready for a hike on a moment’s notice. I’ve rounded up some incredible pieces with Bella vibes that are perfect for a cold weather look. I’ve also rounded up a Bella’s vampire look that translate well into a current sophisticated style. Twilight may be over a decade old but it’s lure is still very much alive. Turns out, being Bella is right on trend!

“And so the lion fell in love with the lamb…” he murmured. I looked away, hiding my eyes as I thrilled to the word.
“What a stupid lamb,” I sighed.
“What a sick, masochistic lion.”

The Twilight saga is one of the most beloved book and movie series. I fell in love with the love story of course, but I also never got enough of the beautiful scenery, the wet, cold weather and the overall woodsy vibe of each movie. The Twilight series has gone down in pop culture as one of the most watched and loved movie series of all time. It’s connected generations of mothers, daughters and grandmothers whether you were Team Edward or Team Jacob!

Who Is Bella Swan?

Who is Bella Swan and why would anyone want her style? Afterall, she’s a character in a book that came out in the early 2000s…

The Twilight craze has passed as has the fashion. Bella Swan is a mousy, introverted character who’s clumsy and insecure. However, when you think a bit deeper, she was actually a young woman who didn’t care about keeping up with the latest fashions, being popular or getting attention. She was an old soul who saw past the surface of things. She knew what she wanted and believed she was strong enough to hold on to herself while succumbing to dangerous love. There was something magnetic about Bella. I believe it was the fact that she had no idea how beautiful she was and never tried hard to get attention. In fact, she ran from the spotlight and was never anything more or less than who she was.

“About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him-and I didn’t know how potent that part might be-that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.”

Even before Bella becomes a vampire, she has the power to protect and shield her thoughts. I love this aspect of Bella’s character. While she isn’t physically immune to harm, her heart and mind are because of her own special strength. Perhaps this is why she is so disinterested in seeking attention and notoriety. She’s solid in who she is and what she wants. Bella Swan is an unexpected heroine with her inner strength, steadfast resolve and effortless sense of style.

In the Twilight franchise, Kristen Stewart embodied the essence of Bella perfectly. Her chemistry with Robert Pattinson who played Edward Cullen was off the charts and made her even more attractive of a character. The love triangle between her, Edward and Jacob made for an incredibly intriguing first 3 books and movies.

From Bella’s perfect prom dress to her wedding dress, we’ll discuss everything in between. I mean, I don’t think there was a henley Bella didn’t like!

“I’d never given much though to how I would die. But dying in place of someone I love, seems like a good way to go. I can’t bring myself to regret the decisions that brought me face to face with death. They also brought me to Edward.”

The Bella Swan’s Style:

Bella Swan’s character is not your typical female lead.

She is a bit of a wallflower, clumsy and shy, she runs from attention. Definitely the poster child for an introvert, Bella prefers alone time or one on one time to school and social events. Bella has zero desire to be popular or well-known. While these are not typically traits of someone you’d want to emulate, Bella has the wonderful trait of not being caught up in what others think of her. What you see is what you get and her unassuming style reflects that quality. There’s something wonderful about the fact that she did not attract Edward by wearing flashy clothes and being the life of the party who knows how to work her charms on men.

Bella lives in Forks, Washington. A stunning area of the state that sees quite a bit of rain and very little sun. The weather in the movie is depicted as typically cold so this plays a huge role in the wardrobe we see her in. This is what I love about her style. Bella dresses in a comfortable, cozy manner. She layers like a typical person would in that type of climate and this allows for a variety of textures in her look. We see her mainly in neutral tones with plenty of waffle knit to spare.

In the first film, Twilight, we see Bella in a lot of long sleeves, navy blue, a plaid shirt, a headband, several peasant tops and plenty of fitted and hooded jackets. This doesn’t change through many of the books/movies.

The second film, New Moon, Bella continues her earthy style but there is more of a mature edginess to it. She’s let go of peasant tops for the most part and seems to be dressing for more outdoor activity. She wears hooded rain coats, flannels, long-sleeved shirts and dark pants.

As the series progresses, Bella’s character grows up. Her style drastically changes in the Breaking Dawn 1 & 2 movie courtesy of Alice and we see a lovely transition into adulthood and maturity without losing the true essence of who she still is. During this time, her clothes are simple yet womanly with a slight flair of sexy which is a huge departure to the Bella we knew in the first 3 books and movies.

Bella Swan Outfits:

My top Bella Swan look is from Breaking Dawn 1. I love the dark wash jeans, a fitted brown moto jacket and white high heels. Granted, Bella did not add the white heels to her outfit. She was trying to break in her wedding shoes but I love the contrast of the shoes with the masculine jacket. I think it embodies the metamorphosis Bella is in the midst of right before becoming a wife.

Bella’s prom dress at the end of Twilight was a cobalt blue halter neckline with ruffle tiers. It was extremely feminine so it was paired with black converse. We see her in blue again at the beginning of her time as a vampire. Her birthday look from New Moon was a green flare dress with black flowers and black bow belt with a black cardigan sweater. Of course we couldn’t forget to mention her gorgeous white fitted wedding gown from Breaking Dawn with the long veil, buttoned lace back and silver diamond hair comb with sapphires.

How to Re-Create Bella Swan Outfits:

I’ve rounded up some current articles of clothing that have major Bella/Twilight vibes. All though the movies are over a decade old, Bella’s style is worth exploring and repeating since fall and winter are upon us. This post is for you if you love dressing cozy and comfortable and prefer sensible clothes that jive with the weather and the terrain.

I’ll also explore Bella’s post-vampire look which is a huge contrast to the androgenous, outdoorsy look we’ve seen in the first 4 movies. Bella transforms before our eyes into a fierce, edgy vampire who is not to be messed with.

Bella’s Hair & Makeup:

Bella has the most beautiful thick, dark auburn hair. It’s loosely curled and swept to the side with volume around the crown. Her hair is feminine and fairy tale princess worthy.

Bella’s makeup is extremely minimal. Her skin is pale with slightly blushed cheeks. She’s got copper brown shadow and eye liner once she becomes a vampire with a brick colored lip.

Bella’s Jewelry:

Bella wears little jewelry but what she does wear is a Native American turquoise bracelet and a moonstone ring. Let’s not forget her wolf charm bracelet and of course her diamond wedding ring. Each of these items I’ve linked in this post!

Bella Swan Post-Vampire Style:

It’s an extraordinary thing to meet someone who you can bear your soul to, who will accept you for what you are. I’ve been waiting for what seems like a very long time to get beyond what I am, and with Bella, I feel like I can finally begin. So I’d like to propose a toast to my beautiful bride. No measure of time with you will be long enough, but let’s start with forever.

Bella changes her style completely once she becomes a vampire. Gone is the cozy, outdoorsy look from before. Now she’s wearing grays and blacks with the biggest pop of color being an occasional army green.

She’s wearing ultra-fitted pants, tops and dresses as well as a fantastic dark gray trench. Shoes are black chunky booties or black heels. As Bella moves into her new happy life with Edward, she dons an edgy, dark style that reflects the journey that has led her to protecting her loved ones with a fierceness that rivals a mother tiger protecting her young. How fitting, the lamb becomes a lion….

Bella Swan’s two contrasting looks can easily be combined into one cohesive style because her human look is very much an appropriate “day look” and her vampire style is more of a “night look”. The two looks, while don’t seem to have a common thread do reflect the Twilight vibe of the Pacific Northwest. Dressing for cold, wet weather while still bringing high fashion and edginess for a more sophisticated look.

Bella Swan Costume:

While I did not want to focus this post on a Halloween costume, I would totally be Bella at a costume party! A couple of iconic items that will make a costume obviously Bella would be her headband in the first movie. I also think a fun prop would be a little cactus as well. If you plan to be Bella as a vampire the most standout prop you could incorporate would be her red eyes.

Feel about it how you’d like, but the Twilight saga books and movies will forever hold a place in my heart. Sure, the movies are filled with silly quotes and questionable acting and dialogue but this is a story that begins in the awkward teenage years. All 4 books and all 5 movies beautifully capture the breathtaking scenery of northern Washington as well as the heart fluttering love story that is Bella and Edward. Of course, let’s not forget to mention Jacob and his wolf pack and all the charm captured around the Native American culture that is so prominent in the Pacific Northwest.

Bella is an unlikely choice for a “steal the look” post but once I began breaking down the progression of her outfits I realized she is the perfect choice to delve into each outfit for our own inspiration during the dreary months of fall and winter. I love her practical, warm outfits that portray that she never tries to hard to be something she’s not. She never chooses clothes that will make her stand out but yet somehow she stands out. There is something powerful about a woman who masters and effortless style. Near the end of the saga we see Bella bloom into the woman she was always meant to become and can pull inspiration from her black/gray looks as well.

I hope you’ve found this post interesting and been inspired by these Bella Swan outfits!

xx, Jenni
